Historic Day for Dentistry in Queensland

The Government's announcement today that the staged introduction of fluoride into Queensland's water supplies has commenced on the Gold Coast is a momentous day in the history of dentistry in Queensland. The Australian Dental Association Queensland (ADAQ) has campaigned since 1953 to have fluoride introduced into Queensland's drinking supplies.

Water Fluoridation has been named by the US-based Centers for Disease Control as one of the ten great public health achievements of the twentieth century. It has been responsible for a dramatic decrease in decay rates and tooth loss in the areas where it has been introduced.

The Australian Dental Association (Queensland Branch), the voice of dentistry in Queensland, expressed its satisfaction when State Parliament last night passed legislation to introduce fluoride into Queensland's water supplies.
"It's a great day for all Queenslanders," said ADAQ President Dr John Wills.

ADAQ keen to support regional dental school in Cairns

The announced $50 million funding commitment by both major parties towards a new James Cook University tropical dental school based at Cairns has received endorsement from the Australian Dental Association Queensland Branch.
